This film is not just a look at their lives but an exploration of what New York is to queens today as well as in the past, we meet the drag queen that was there when it was illegal, the one who left it all when it became too much as well as one who achieved fame from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Drag queens are political too and in this film we cover Sister Roma’s fight against Facebook and the fight for a new location for the New York bar Boots & Saddles.

Episode #9 “An Interview With John Stanisci”

This week we had the pleasure to chat with John Stanisci.

John Stanisci

John Stanisci

I’ve know John for over a decade now, and he never ceases to amaze me.

John has been a professional illustrator for over 18 years working for all the major comic book publishers including Marvel Comics, DC Comics, IDW Publishing and many more, drawing characters such as Spider Man, Batman, Catwoman, Superman, The Hulk and others.

John is currently working on his own comic book called “Lifedeath” and he was kind enough to share 2 pages with us, so you all get a sneak-peek to his incredible work!

In addition to being an artist, John is also an accomplished actor who has appeared in Film, TV and on Broadway. In 2005, he co founded his own theater company, Invictus Theater, which was chiefly responsible for bringing the play ‘Irena’s Vow’ to Broadway in 2009. John co produced the play (along with Daryl Roth and Jimmy Nedelander) and co starred in the role of Rokita. Irena’s Vow starred four time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh.

John is also an accomplished writer and he’s putting the final touches on his new play “JEREMIAH 5:1”. I saw the very powerful staged reading he did in December directed by Michael Parva and featuring Kathleen Turner, Sarita Choudhury, David Morse, Stelio Savante and Thomas Ryan. It’s an incredible story and I’m very much looking forward to see what’s next for this piece!
